Tragic Fall Claims Life of Worker at Mexico City’s Monument to the Revolution

A man fell from a structure while performing maintenance work on the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City.

According to available information, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the cultural center, prompting a significant mobilization of emergency services.

The victim lost his life in the incident. It is reported that he fell from a height of approximately 20 meters while working on the dome of the monument.

Experts from the Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) of Mexico City have conducted procedures to remove the body. Additionally, personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) have secured the area for the necessary operations.

Location of the Monument to the Revolution:
The Monument to the Revolution is situated in Plaza de la República, in the Tabacalera neighborhood, near the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Juárez, in the most touristic area of Mexico City.

The history of the Monument dates back to the Porfiriato, when then-president Porfirio Díaz decreed that the new Legislative Palace of Mexico would be constructed there.

The dome, where the fatal incident occurred on Wednesday, is part of the original design planned by the Díaz administration.

Due to the Mexican Revolution, the Legislative Palace could not be completed. After the triumph of the Revolution and the establishment of new governments, it was decided to resume the project with modifications, leading to the construction of the current Monument to the Revolution using the original dome.
