Over 5,000 Security Personnel Mobilized for Summer Vacation Season in Guerrero

Acapulco, Guerrero – More than 5,000 elements from various security corporations, including the National Guard, Navy, National Defense, Civil Protection, Red Cross, Beach Promoter, Federal Consumer Protection Agency, State Attorney General’s Office, and the Public Security Secretariat, among other institutions, have been mobilized to ensure the safety of tourists during the summer vacation season in Guerrero. The operation, which commenced on July 17, will run until August 25.

During the official flag-off ceremony at Parque de la Reina, Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda expressed optimism for a successful season in Acapulco. She noted the significance of this season’s start, particularly following the devastating impact of Hurricane Otis on October 25. Salgado Pineda remarked, “Acapulco remains strong, beautiful, and will continue to be the number one destination.”

The operation will deploy 422 vehicles and two helicopters to enhance coordinated surveillance efforts across highways, beaches, and recreational sites throughout the state. Governor Salgado Pineda also delivered 40 motorcycle patrol cars to the state Public Security Secretariat during the event.

Simón Quiñones Orozco, head of the state Tourism Secretariat, assured that the tourism sector is fully prepared to accommodate visitors. He projected a general hotel occupancy rate of over 68 percent, an economic impact of 5.8 billion pesos, and the arrival of more than 800,000 tourists to main destinations such as Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Taxco, and Acapulco. Specifically for Acapulco, the expected arrival is 594,000 tourists, with a 60 percent occupancy rate in available hotel rooms.

The Hello Summer campaign has been launched in Guerrero, featuring billboards on highways, airports, and advertisements on cinema screens to promote tourism. Quiñones Orozco highlighted that just nine months after Hurricane Otis, 221 hotels are operational in Acapulco out of the 281 that were functional before the hurricane, offering a capacity of 10,807 rooms, many of which have been renovated, out of the 19,000 rooms available before last October.

The combined efforts of these security and tourism initiatives aim to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors during this peak vacation period in Guerrero.
