Farnborough, United Kingdom – July 22, 2024 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), through the General Directorate of Global Economic Development and in collaboration with the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (Femia), officially inaugurated the Mexican Pavilion at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) 2024. The event aims to boost investments in the burgeoning Mexican aerospace sector.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Carlos Robles Álvarez, President of Femia, and Luis Lizcano, CEO of Femia. They were joined by Disraeli Gómez Herrera, President of the Mexican Aerospace Fair (Famex). Additionally, key representatives from the states of Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, and Querétaro, alongside directors from various Mexican aerospace companies, industry clusters, and universities, attended the event.
Representing Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, Rodrigo Morales Castillo, Director General of Global Economic Impulse, underscored the SRE’s commitment to attracting investments that benefit Mexican society. Morales Castillo highlighted Mexico’s capabilities, innovation, and talent in the aerospace industry, affirming its strategic importance to the Mexican government.
Strategic Meetings and Investment Announcements
Throughout the FIA, SRE officials engaged in meetings with representatives from leading aerospace companies, including BAE Systems, Embraer, GKN Aerospace, Aernnova, Safran, and TT Electronics. These discussions revealed a strong interest in expanding operations in Mexico and led to the announcement of several collaboration agreements. These agreements are set to enhance the industrial ecosystem of Mexico’s aerospace sector and involve significant investments over the coming years.
Aerospace Industry Growth and Impact
In 2023, Mexico attracted $156 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) in aerospace manufacturing, contributing to an accumulated investment of nearly $4 billion from January 1999 to September 2023. The country is home to over 368 aerospace plants, generating approximately 50,000 direct jobs and 190,000 indirect jobs.
Mexico ranks as the 14th largest producer of aerospace products globally and the 12th largest exporter of aerospace parts. It is also the 12th leading destination for investments in aeronautical projects worldwide and the top destination in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Farnborough International Airshow: A Premier Aerospace Platform
The Farnborough International Airshow, with a history spanning over 75 years, remains one of the premier global platforms for the aerospace and defence industry. This year’s event features around 1,200 exhibitors from 44 countries and attracts more than 70,000 international visitors.
