Mexico City Grand Prix Secures Spot on Formula 1 Calendar Through 2028

The Mexico City Grand Prix will remain a fixture on the Formula 1 calendar through 2028, following a newly signed three-year contract extension announced by F1. This agreement ensures that the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez will continue to host the event, which has become renowned for its electrifying atmosphere and passionate fanbase.

Since its return to the F1 calendar in 2015, the Mexico City Grand Prix has consistently drawn massive crowds, with last year’s event attracting over 400,000 attendees over the weekend. The race’s popularity is attributed to its unique setting and the fervent support of Mexican fans.

Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali praised the event, stating, “Formula One is energy, passion and emotion, and every year the unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible and energetic experiences of our championship.”

Local officials, including Mexico City’s head of government Clara Brugada and President Claudia Sheinbaum, played pivotal roles in securing the extension. Alejandro Soberón Kuri, president of CIE, emphasized the event’s significance, noting its contribution to Mexico City’s economic development and global promotion.

Despite Mexico currently lacking an active Formula 1 driver, the Grand Prix’s appeal remains strong. Speculation surrounds former Red Bull racer Sergio Pérez potentially returning with the new Cadillac team set to debut in 2026, which could further bolster local interest.

The upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix is scheduled for October 26, 2025, immediately following the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Fans can anticipate another thrilling race at the high-altitude Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, a circuit that continues to challenge drivers and captivate audiences worldwide.
