Mexico and the Dominican Republic are celebrating 136 years of diplomatic relations with the Mexico-Dominican Republic Brotherhood Series, a series of events and baseball games designed to highlight the strong ties between the two nations. The initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the Dominican Republic Embassy in Mexico, and the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), features baseball games across 20 Mexican cities and one U.S. location from July 19 to 27.
The Brotherhood Series includes a variety of activities designed to showcase the cultural and sporting connections between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by officials from both countries, and the national anthems of each nation will be performed at each game. Fans will have the opportunity to meet Dominican baseball players during autograph sessions, and event branding will be prominently featured in stadiums, on social media, and on television broadcasts.
A diplomatic event held yesterday in Puebla, organized by the Puebla Government, featured notable attendees including Carlos Imanol Belausteguigoitia, Director General for Central America and the Caribbean, and María Isabel Castillo Báez, Dominican Republic Ambassador to Mexico. The event included discussions on the bilateral relationship between the two countries with Puebla officials and local businesspeople, emphasizing the importance of the ties between Puebla and the Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic is Mexico’s primary Caribbean trading partner and serves as a key destination for Mexican exports and investments, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, agribusiness, telecommunications, and construction. This strong economic relationship is bolstered by ongoing, dynamic political dialogue and robust trade and cooperation ties.
Beyond economics, the two nations share historical and cultural bonds, with baseball playing a significant role as a unifying force and a symbol of their shared heritage. Dominican players have been integral to the growth of Mexican baseball, contributing significantly throughout the sport’s history in the Caribbean. This season, the LMB’s 20 teams feature 149 players from the Dominican Republic, highlighting the deep connection between the countries through baseball.
The Brotherhood Series is not only a celebration of the diplomatic relationship but also an opportunity to showcase the contributions of Dominican players to Mexican baseball. Gloria Sandoval Salas, Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid), and the Dominican Republic Ambassador to Mexico will throw the first pitch at the game on July 26, set to be played at the Alfredo Harp Helú stadium in Mexico City. This symbolic act underscores the unity and shared passion for baseball that both nations cherish.
As the series unfolds, the celebration of the 136th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the Dominican Republic will continue to strengthen the bonds between the two countries, fostering greater cooperation and understanding through the universal language of sport.
