Mexico City—A unit of the Mexico City Metrobús Line 4 was involved in a significant traffic accident this morning in the Venustiano Carranza municipality, causing a disruption in service and leading to multiple injuries.
Initial reports indicate that the Metrobús collided with at least seven private vehicles at approximately 9:10 a.m. due to a suspected failure in its braking system. The accident took place at the intersection of Dumont and Boulevard Puerto Aéreo, a busy area that saw immediate attention from emergency and transport authorities.
According to the Collective Transportation System (STC) Metrobús, the bus operator notified the Control Center about the crash shortly after it occurred. Preliminary information suggests that the Metrobús, while traveling on the designated restricted lane, was forced to collide with several cars that were preparing to turn at the intersection.
The incident resulted in four individuals requiring medical evaluation, with one person being transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution. Emergency personnel, including representatives from Metrobús, the operating company, and the relevant insurance agency, responded promptly to the scene to provide necessary care and begin investigations into the incident.
The bus operator has stated, pending official investigation results, that a mechanical failure in the Metrobús unit may have caused the accident. In response to this, Metrobús management has announced that they will be requesting a detailed report from the operating company regarding the vehicle’s mechanical condition. Should any negligence be confirmed, appropriate sanctions will be applied in accordance with the system’s Rules of Operation.
