Villa de Pozos, San Luis Potosí – In a landmark decision, the Congress of San Luis Potosí has approved a decree that establishes Villa de Pozos as the state’s 59th municipality. The newly formed municipality will have a municipal council starting October 1.
The initiative was submitted by citizens Gaspar Méndez Ramírez and Ricardo Gutiérrez Ortega, who represented the residents of the Villa de Pozos district in the municipality of San Luis Potosí. Their request has now culminated in a significant administrative change for the region.
During the transitional period, while the first municipal council is being elected, a provisional municipal council will be responsible for governance and public services. This interim council is to be appointed within 25 calendar days of the decree’s enactment, ensuring a smooth transition and continued provision of services.
The petition’s approval by the local Congress is grounded in adherence to the Law, with arguments demonstrating that the population center intended to become a municipality possesses the necessary infrastructure and facilities to support public services as mandated by the State Constitution. This includes comprehensive administrative departments essential for municipal administration.
Villa de Pozos is well-equipped with a range of educational institutions, spanning from preschool to higher education, and it also boasts medical services, banking facilities, as well as industrial, commercial, and agricultural institutions. These amenities ensure that the residents of Villa de Pozos will have access to a full spectrum of services under the new municipal administration.
This development marks a significant step in the administrative evolution of San Luis Potosí, reflecting the region’s growth and the residents’ drive for greater local governance. The establishment of Villa de Pozos as a municipality is expected to bring enhanced focus on local issues and more tailored governance, benefiting the community’s development and prosperity.
