Oaxaca, Mexico – A 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck Oaxaca on the morning of Tuesday, July 16, as reported by the National Seismological Service. The tremor was recorded at 08:29:17 AM, with its epicenter located 38 kilometers southeast of Pinotepa Nacional.
The earthquake has prompted immediate action from local authorities. Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz announced that preliminary inspections are being conducted across eight municipalities in the state to assess potential structural damage.
“We have already activated emergency protocols in the eight regions to make an assessment. We will continue to report,” Governor Jara Cruz communicated via X, formerly known as Twitter.
As of now, the National Coordination of Civil Protection has not reported any injuries or structural damage. However, the situation remains under close surveillance.
“At the moment, no damage has been reported. Monitoring is ongoing,” stated Civil Protection authorities in a post on X.
